Here are 3 websites to get you started.
UConn OUR, office of undergrad research: http://ugradresearch.uconn.edu/funding-opportunities/
NSF REU: http://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.jsp
UConn McNair: http://www.cap.uconn.edu/msp/about.html
If looking for an opportunity on-campus, I recommend you search under the “faculty” links on UConn departmental webpages, and each faculty should have detailed info about their research projects, their office locations, and their email addresses.
Draft a professional email to send to the professor: introduce yourself/ major/ why you’re interested in doing research in their lab, andinclude your course agenda + other weekly commitments so they can coordinate their schedule with yours and you can set up a time to meet with them. I’d make a list of top 5 and send an email to each individually. Don’t be afraid to look outside of your major (such as being a biology major seeking a research project in the department of animal science or nutrition!).
If you live near campus, perhaps meeting between semesters with a professor to discuss research projects will be an option for you. It is very quiet on campus and most faculty/ staff are around except for the week of Christmas/ New Years.
